(CBT)

ACT and ERP are synergistic approaches that fall under the evidence-based framework of cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT helps us become more aware of how our beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence our current experience.

(ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy is a dynamic modality that increases psychological flexibility—something at odds with the rigidity of OCD and anxiety—and supplements the process of ERP. Importantly, it emphasizes redirection toward values-based experiences.

(ERP)

Exposure and response prevention is a gold standard approach to treating OCD and anxiety disorders. It involves thoughtful, systematic exposure to triggering stimuli without the reinforcement of safety behaviors and mental rituals. This process aims to modify unhelpful beliefs about perceived threats while increasing confidence and tolerance of uncertainty.
